Brett is a nannoplankton specialist with over 13 years of industrial experience.  He has worked on sections from the US, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and is involved in projects requiring the integration of data from multiple disciplines.  Brett is well regarded as providing reliable and accurate real-time geosteering decisions, picking coring and TD points as well as the construction of high-resolution biozonations and work-flows, tailored to specific operational requirements. Through is career to date, Brett has worked on a number of HP/HT wells, on under-balanced, conventional and coiled tubing drilling wells in carbonate, clastic, deltaic and shale sequences.

After graduating in 2004 from University College London with an M.Sc in Micropalaeontology, Brett began his career as a Data Engineer for Datalog Technology.  It was here that he gained experience in drilling procedures and well operations that allow him to use the wealth of drilling data as well as the LWD data at wellsite to make informed geosteering decisions.

In 2006, Brett joined Network Stratigraphic Consulting Ltd where he worked primarily on the Late Jurassic to Paleocene chalk fields of the UK, Norwegian and Danish sectors of the North Sea.  Specifically, he was responsible for high-resolution biostratigraphic analysis of Early Cretaceous to Early Paleocene intervals on the South Arne, Ekofisk, Eldfisk, Tor, Jasmine, Joanne, Culzean and Britannia fields.  As well as successfully geosteering within thin reservoir layers, Brett was also specialised in picking casing points in thin units immediately above expected changes in formation pressure. This lead to several field wide and basinal studies incorporating both biostratigraphy, depositional analyses and LWD data.

Outside of the North Sea, he also worked on numerous projects providing and integrating nannofossil data as part of a multidisciplinary team. These projects included multi well studies, field correlations and also supported engineering projects from Slovakia, Mozambique (Rhab Basin), Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia, Angola, Pakistan, US (Eagle Ford) and Egypt. This latter work in Egypt included an offshore assignment requiring the real time strategic monitoring from Sidi Salim to Tineh Formations (Miocene to Oligocene), offshore Nile Delta to pick casing point above over pressured sands.

Brett became director of Target Stratigraphy Ltd in 2014 where the focus of his work has diversified more into Middle Eastern sections.  Primarily, this involves working on an under-balanced coiled tubing project for Saudi Aramco geosteering numerous laterals within target zones of the Khuff Formation. He is responsible for real time geosteering of the well based on LWD and thin section cuttings data, fulfilling the role of both wellsite geologist and thin-section micropalaeontologist.  When not on location in Saudi Arabia Brett is involved in multidisciplinary projects covering the Early Cretaceous to Paleocene of sections from Oman, Kuwait and Pakistan; as well as continuing to complete wellsite assignments and infill analysis from the Norwegian North Sea.

In 2018 Brett became a partner in Palaeo7 LLP.
